Breakfast bowls of fried rice and rice dumplings beside pink roses at Arky's B&B in Smith River, California

Breakfast included

Our fresh Chinese breakfast

Breakfast is included with every stay. We cook it fresh from our family recipes, from Sichuan and the Yangtze River delta to Smith River.

Genuine Chinese foods

We cook with love, from more than one China

We make a genuine Chinese breakfast with love and heart. When our daughter Arky was growing up at home, we planned these breakfasts to be nourishing and good to eat. She woke to the smell of the food and started her day that way. We now cook a more delicate breakfast here, for people from different cultures. These are Chinese foods you may never have tried. They come from different parts of China and range from sweet to spicy. They look good, and they taste even better.

Breakfast is included with every stay. The dishes below are examples of what we like to cook, not a fixed menu for every morning.

Glass bowl of Sichuan huntun in chili oil and sesame, with the characters 馄饨

Sichuan

Huntun

Chinese huntun is one of the best-known dishes of Sichuan. We make it with a thin dumpling wrapper and meat. Richard makes the spicy oil and the dumplings himself, and the bowl is hot and savory.

Pineapple Fried Rice & Tangyuan

This is a favorite breakfast with us. Sweet dumplings, Tangyuan, are traditional Chinese food typically offered during the Lantern Festival. In Chinese, Tangyuan stands for family reunion. People from the Yangtze River delta often eat them for breakfast, and this is one of the foods our daughter missed most from home. Ana adapted a new recipe with local ingredients and improved the flavor so well that even Chinese people who taste it are full of praise.

Whole spiced corned egg in a bowl with savory meat, asparagus, carrot, celery, and cilantro

A childhood breakfast

Spiced Corned Egg

Ana's father made spiced corned eggs for her breakfast when she was little. When she moved to California, she brought that hometown memory with her and made Smith River the new hometown for herself and for our daughter Arky. We served this dish at our grand opening. Friends were amazed and asked us for the recipe. You should come and try it.

Boiled Beef

Richard prepares our boiled beef. It is simply tasty and healthy: sliced beef with tomato and a sesame soy dipping sauce.

Two bamboo steamers of Fenzhengrou, beef steamed with seasoned rice flour

粉蒸肉

Fenzhengrou

Fenzhengrou is a traditional dish from Sichuan Province. We steam the beef with seasoned rice flour and serve it in bamboo steamer baskets, a Sichuan home classic.
